چکیده

Introduction and Objectives Forty years ago Gordon Moore predicted exponential growth in the density of electronic circuits, a forecast that has been realized. A concomitant of this remarkable achievement is that design and manufacturing costs have increased dramatically. We are approaching a tipping point at which either exponential growth in density will cease or new technologies and methods of assembly will emerge that will allow continuing progress at reasonable cost. Our research program is predicated on the proposition that new materials of nanometer-sized dimensions and assembled in new ways will supplement and replace conventional lithography-based wires and devices. Our goal is to understand and address problems that stand in the way of achieving this objective. More specifically, we seek to a) develop low-dimensional nanoelectronic materials that can be self-assembled into large-scale circuits, b) create and analyze models for directed self-assembly of such circuits with particular focus on crossbars, c) explore large-scale nanoelectronics-based architectures for efficient computation, and d) incorporate knowledge thus acquired into advanced undergraduate and early graduate instruction.

Transcranial near-infrared phtobiomodulation causes anti-depressive and anti- anxiety effects in mice model of depression

Introduction: Depression is a common psychiatric disorder and about one in five people experience depression during their lifespan. Despite the anti-depressive effects of drug therapy, problems such as non-targeting and dose-resistant lead to more effective approaches. Transcranial Photobiomodulation (TPBM) or transcranial low-level laser (TLLL) therapy is a novel and neuropro...

Alphabet Partitioning Techniques for Semi-Adaptive Huffman Coding of Large Alphabets Alphabet Partitioning Techniques for Semi-Adaptive Huffman Coding of Large Alphabets∗

Practical applications that employ entropy coding for large alphabets often partition the alphabet set into two or more layers and encode each symbol by using some suitable prefix coding for each layer. In this paper, we formulate the problem of finding an alphabet partitioning for the design of a two-layer semi-adaptive code as an optimization problem, and give a solution based on dynamic prog...

Improved Algorithms for Unique Games via Divide and Conquer

We present two new approximation algorithms for Unique Games. The first generalizes the results of [2, 15] who give polynomial time approximation algorithms for graphs with high conductance. We give a polynomial time algorithm assuming only good local conductance, i.e. high conductance for small subgraphs. The second algorithm runs in mildly exponential time, e, but makes no assumptions about t...
